Docs vs Fiction

by lomaxboyd

DocInfographic-01As someone new to documentary arts, I was curious how nonfiction films measure up against their big-budget fictional counterparts. In order to give docs the best fighting chance, I compared data for all (or many) documentaries over the years and compared their stats to fictional films released in 2012. As you might expect, Hollywood types dominate the revenue stream, but docs are becoming more popular and return comparable profits in the middle quartiles over the long run. And there is that whole social good aspect, too.

I pulled data from Box Office Mojo and the Ripple Effect blog. If you have suggestions on other open source data please let me know.
